Review
With commercially successful singles “Quicksand” and “In For The Kill” (latterly remixed by dubstep luminary Skream), red-headed, pale-skinned Brixton girl Elly Jackson and her “invisible” co-producer Ben Langmaid irrevocably established their love of 80s pop. This debut album from La Roux continues the duo’s foray into euphoric retro-dance, nodding non-ironically to the likes of The Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17 and The Human League while remaining impressively contemporary. Opening with a string of sassy tunes–the buzzing “Tigerlily”, the synth-heavy “Quicksand” and the slick and fiery “Bulletproof”–it’s apparent that La Roux have colour, class and confidence in spades. The album tapers off a little during the second half–failed experiments like “Cover My Eyes” which features the London Community Gospel Choir don’t help–but it still boasts way more in the shape of dynamic killers than sappy fillers. First class. –Danny McKennaCD Description

La Roux: History In The Making
So far, La Roux wowed us with the fantastic single “In For The Kill” and then wowed us again with previous number 1 “Bulletproof”.

    Interestingly good
La Roux’s first album has received mixed reviews and understandably so, it is a very different album and will not be to everyone’s taste.

    Outstanding debut!
Like most people, I started hearing snippets of la roux, mostly through remixes appearing all over the place a few months back, so I was already waiting for the la roux album, and…

    Freudian slip.

    I like it!
I like loads of music at the moment i’m listening to this and Marcus Smith’s Hooked. This la roux is a great album and deserves the hype it’s getting.

    don’t fall for the marketing
As an older person I am trying to keep up with what’s going on but I was disappointed with la-roux. Call me old-fashioned but you may as well get Depeche Mode’s first album, an…

    La nouveau Kim Wilde
Where to start? Overhyped, meticulously stylised record company poodle. Invisible, probably non-photogenic bloke doing all the work.

    Ho-Hum Synth Pop
Should encourage sales of Depeche Mode’s ‘Speak and Spell’ – otherwise, surprisingly weak vocals top underworked mechanical tunes that tend toward grey and forgettable as they…
